When we think of all the things we need to do in a day, we often forget to add in fun. I hear you saying it now: “How can I include fun? I have so much to take care of and so many people expecting things of me, that there is no way I can actually include FUN!” No, you don’t have to go climb a wall to have fun, but there are things you can do. Think about what you consider “fun”. It could be as simple as having breakfast with your son, and letting him catch you up on his days. It could be just carving out a little time for yourself, and having a cup of tea. How about reading a chapter of the book you have been dying to get to? How about scheduling lunch next week with a friend you haven’t seen in a while?
What do these things all have in common? They take setting aside time for you. Women are the worst at this, but men can be just as bad…”I will take time later”. Sometimes “later” never comes. I know you have heard this question a lot of times, but are you going to look back on your life and regret not having finished your endless “To Do” list? More likely, you will regret not having done those “I will do that later” things. How many have you already given up because you waited too long?
So let’s take the calendar by the pages and schedule one thing that we have wanted to do for a long time. Call whoever you need to, but get it on the calendar, and do it. Then, think of one simple thing you could do for yourself today that you would enjoy.
Maybe you are good at this, you schedule time for friends and for the things you want to do. Great!! You are probably the calm, relaxed one. So what I would ask you to do is look around and see the people you know who are struggling. Take them aside and get them to do something with you that you both would call “fun”.
Put it on your calendar today!
Why don’t you sit down with your calendar and schedule several fun things to do over the next month. Then you won’t even have to think about what you should do, you will already have it planned out, and have scheduled around it.
